AATC Congratulates the 2025 Award Winners

Awardees were recognized at the AATC Annual Conference on October 9-11, 2025, in Minneapolis, MN. We extend our gratitude to the award committees for their service.

The 2025 O.L. Davis, Jr. Outstanding Book Award is presented to Matthew Clay for their book, The Worlds Educators Create: The Role of Education in the Creation of Place (Rowman & Littlefield).

The 2025 Francis P. Hunkins Distinguished Article Award in the category of teaching is presented to Suzette Youngs, Dr. Christine Kyser, and Danielle Bell, for their article, “Engaging Preservice Teachers in Awareness, Analysis, and Advocacy of Diverse Children's Literature Book Displays” In the category of curriculum, the Hunkins Award is presented to Amanda Bucher, for their article, “‘La Puerta,’ Carving Methodological Doorways: From Arts-Based Inquiry to Transgenerational Insight”

The 2025 John Laska Dissertation Award in the category of teaching is presented to Leslie Widener, for  “The Potential Power of Peer Feedback: A Quasi-Experimental Exploration of Gifted Middle School Students’ Perceptions of Peer Feedback as an Instructional Tool to Improve Science Learning” In the category of curriculum, the Laska Dissertation Award is presented to Ryan Warren, for “Soul(ed) Out: A sociohistorical counternarrative concerning the processes of education reform and gentrification in South Memphis, Tennessee.”

The 2025 Distinguished Mentor is presented to Christy McConnell.
